Serums & Oils for Glowy Skin

There’s a myriad of serums, oils and balms out there that can give you gorgeous, glowy skin. It seems like every week I read about a new launch or see pretty new pictures of sleek little bottles promising to change my skin forever-and I’m totally here for it! I’ve only been into serums and oils for roughly two years now, so I feel a little behind the times. Let’s chat about some of my recent favorites that have helped me get closer to my goal of healthy, glowy skin.

Physicians Formula Rose All Day Oil-Free Serum | Josie Maran Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm | Beautycounter No. 1 Brightening Oil | Beautycounter No. 3 Balancing Oil| Pixi Beauty Overnight Glow Serum | Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil | Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum

I lumped these two together because of their unique qualities. The Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm and Rose all Day Oil-free Serum can both be used as a primer, mix-in, or as a finisher on top of makeup to add a subtle gleam. Both also contain an iridescent shift that creates the lit-from-within glow we all crave.

The Rose All Day Serum has been on heavy repeat in my makeup routine since I purchased it. I mostly apply it as a primer to create a smooth and hydrated base. It also provides a delicate shimmer without the use of glitter. It blends beautifully under foundation, concealer and/or CC cream. The serum has a water-like consistency that absorbs quickly into my skin. I do feel that the rose water helps calm my sensitive skin while also brightening. As the name implies, it has a noticeable rose scent. Normally, I do not enjoy fragrance in my facial products, but I love the fresh rose scent in this. It makes me feel like I’m at a spa when I apply it. Who doesn’t like that?

The Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm is emollient and hydrating. I love the texture and how easily it glides onto my skin. A little goes a long way, so be careful not to use too much. It definitely provides a smooth, glowy base that allows my foundation to be applied easily. I also like to wear this product on no makeup days to give my skin a little extra boost.

I swap these little guys out depending upon my current skin concern. The Pixi Overnight Glow Serum is an exfoliating serum that targets fine lines and brightens skin. Personally, I do not use it with the Pixi Glow Tonic because it’s a little too harsh for my sensitive skin. It pairs nicely with the Pixi Beauty Sleep Cream when I need something light. I can see a significant difference in the texture of my skin after consistent use. Even better, you can scoop it up at Target.

The Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil is a multipurpose rock star that can be used from head-to-toe. I love to mix it in with moisturizer when my skin needs a little extra soothing or directly to my lips for instant healing. I use it as my nightly hand cream to help out my poor dry hands and cuticles (I’m a teacher, so hand sanitizer is life). I also like to use it to tame split ends or fine hair around my face.  So, basically, I love this stuff.

Now, let’s get to the Beautycounter oils. I love both of these oils equally for how they make my skin look and feel. The No. 1 Brightening Facial oil has the most amazing citrus scent and silky texture. I’ve been reaching for it more and more lately. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy. I use a light moisturizer over top of it, like the Pixi Beauty Sleep Cream, and call it a night. The No. 3 Balancing Facial Oil is just as silky and also smells delicious. When my skin is out of control I pair this oil with my Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter to help calm the madness. If you’ve been on the fence about Beautycounter, order these oils and see what the fuss is all about.

Last, but not least, the Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum. This was the first serum I purchased when I was approaching the big 3-0 to step up my nightly skin care routine. This stuff is powerful. Initially, I used it every day, but had to cut it down to every other night due to my skin sensitivities. It changed the texture and radiance of my skin for the better. I was impressed with the product quality and totally dig the brand’s vibe.
